Figure Studies in Acrylic & Pastel
2025Conte, pastel and Acrylics on paper
This series explores the body through pastel and acrylic, where color and the body become a language of emotion. Each figure originates from live drawing sessions, yet it is the deliberate choice of pose and color that transforms its meaning. I focus on volume, texture, and expressive resonance, using color to convey mood and presence. These early works allowed me to experiment with how the body occupies space on the page and how color interacts with gesture. I primarily work on paper, first drawing the figure in conte, then layering pastel and acrylic to create depth, luminosity, and movement. One of my big influences for these series was Degas and Matisse, for their expressive use of color and female figure. The series is also shaped by my personal journey: navigating identity, movement, and the search for a space that feels like home. Each piece reflects both exploration and discovery, moments of learning that continue to guide my practice.
